History of Our Camp

OUR CAMP was launched in 2006, it is  the collective brain-child of British professional snowboarders Emma-Lea Rogers, Sonia Shaw and me, Gilly Seagrave.

I know a lot of girls say ‘I only like riding with boys’ I seriously think this is because they have never ridden with girls that are really ‘into’ snowboarding.

I have a lot of guys I like riding with and it is fun, sure, but nothing beats the feeling of riding with my girl friends, we push each other and know exactly how to help each other with any problems we are having with tricks in the park. I know that my friends aren’t going to push me to try something unless they know I am capable of it. So, with that in my mind I have no doubts when I head to the kicker, doubts are a girls worst enemy, and it is an uphill battle to progress because of it, so having a crew of girls pushing each other is the best way for us to learn.

We have always had a strong girls crew to ride with and the attention we got back then from other girls envious of us for having each other to progress with was massive. Our group was getting bigger and every competition we went to we really felt much less affected by the competitive atmosphere because we knew each other and knew what tricks we were capable of. Even if we didn’t manage to ride perfectly in the comp’s we still felt support from our crew, not like it was our only chance to show what we had, it was just a fun place for us to ride and meet old and new friends.

This was about the time when a seed planted it’s self in our heads, we wanted to give girls the opportunity to feel the same way we did about competitive riding, we thought it would be cool of we had an association where girls could ride together and travel to competitions together and feel more of a unit than on their own.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, we have launched Our Camp, for girls that want to progress in the park and pipe, we plan to develop this into a structure where girls can benefit from our help with riding and sponsors advice etc to take part in competitions and travel around together, whether it be going away for a season, or travel to competitions around the world.

We want to inspire girls to get into the park and experience the fun of freestyle snowboarding, whether it be for 1 week a year or much, much more!
